In general, medical expenses in excess of $35 per month are deductible from a household's income. Note that this medical expense deduction only applies to the Food Assistance (US) program. The following is a list of allowable medical expenses: medical and dental care, hospitalization, outpatient treatment, nursing care and nursing home care, prescription drugs and approved over-the-counter medication, health and hospitalization insurance policy premiums, eye glasses, dentures, hearing aids and prosthetics, and expenses related to obtaining and caring for seeing-eye or hearing dogs.
