Cost Of Care Allowance: This evidence captures details of an allowance that can be applied to the monthly income of an institutionalized Household Member when calculating the cost of care for long term care. An institutionalized Household Member agrees to give their community spouse or family dependents their respective allowances. An institutionalized Household Member is a person who is in long-term care or receiving home or community-based services for a continuous period. The spouse of an institutionalized person is called a community spouse, provided the spouse is not institutionalized as well. The courts determine the amount that should be given to the community spouse. This court ordered amount is recorded on the entity as 'Cost Of Care'. The Cost of Care Allowance is specifically recorded for a Household Member who is eligible for the Long Term Care program. In certain programs the Cost Of Care Allowance is deductible from income. Example A case worker creates a Cost Of Care Allowance for John Smith who is in long term care. John Smith has been ordered by court to pay alimony of $100 a month to his community spouse. John Smith has agreed to give his family dependents his family dependent allowance. |
