Table Description

Absent Parent: This evidence captures the details on the parent who is not in the case. Sometimes a child may be part of a household, but the child's parent(s) may not be part of the same household. Such a parent is called an Absent Parent and an Absent Parent record needs to be created for that parent. In case there is more than one child who has absent parents, or if the same child has more than one parent who is absent, an Absent Parent record needs to be created for each of those cases.

A parent who is absent from the household and who is financially responsible for a child in the household.

Federal law requires enforcement of the legal obligations of parents to support their dependent children. The law requires that a parent cooperate in securing child support from the absent parents) as a condition to receiving assistance. Cooperation means that the parent must name the absent parents) of any child for whom the parent is seeking aid and give information needed to locate and obtain support from the absent parents).

An Absent Parent can be associated with one or more Absenteeism records which in turn is associated with a Child Support Enforcement record.

One or more Absent Parent Child Support records may be added to an absent parent to capture any child support payments made in respect of a child living in the household.

Example

A case worker creates an Absent Parent record for Susan Smith's father who is absent from the household. Susan Smith is a dependent child living in the home.
